Security Screening Access Point - Melbourne Airport

Client: Melbourne Airport

Project: Security Screening Access Point- Melbourne Airport
Main Contractor: Eifers Civil
Timeline: March 2025

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Melbourne Airport required the construction of a new security screening point at Gate 9 to facilitate vehicle access to the airside. To support this development, a new asphalt road was necessary to ensure a smooth and stable surface for operational efficiency. The existing road surface needed levelling, profiling, and a durable asphalt layer to meet aviation industry standards.

Scope of Works

Profile and level the existing surface to ensure proper grading and stability.
Supply and install a 75mm layer of high-quality asphalt.
Reuse and recycle as much on-site material as possible to decrease environmental impact. Used environmentally friendly Greenpave Asphalt to align with sustainability goals.

Challenges and Solutions

Executing the project within an operational airport environment presented several challenges:

Restricted Airside Work Hours: Due to security and operational constraints, the project had to be completed within a strict two-day, eight-hour work window. The team implemented a highly efficient work schedule to meet these tight deadlines.

Environmental Considerations: To support Melbourne Airport’s sustainability initiatives, materials from the existing surface were recycled and reused wherever possible. The use of Greenpave Asphalt further minimised the environmental footprint.

Operational Coordination: Close collaboration with airport authorities ensured seamless scheduling and compliance with airside security regulations, allowing for uninterrupted airport operations.

Project Outcome

The project was successfully completed within the designated timeframe, delivering a high-quality and durable roadway that meets Melbourne Airport’s operational needs.
